Keep the Holidays Scam-Free
11/08/2024
As the holiday season approaches, it’s a time for traditions, gift-giving, and connecting with loved ones. Unfortunately, it’s also a prime time for scammers looking to take advantage of seasonal distractions. At Family Trust, your security is our top priority. Here are a few reminders to help keep you safe not only during the holidays, but all year long.
Avoid Clicking on Unverified Links
Ever received a suspicious text or email?. One of the most common tactics scammers use is sending text messages or emails that look official, prompting you to click on links and provide personal information. Remember, if a message seems unexpected or asks you to "verify" your account or "confirm" a purchase, avoid clicking them. Instead, go directly to our app or website and log in to check any notifications or account information.
Stay Vigilant with Your Personal Information
Fraudsters may pretend to be from legitimate sources, including financial institutions, charitable organizations, or delivery services, to steal sensitive information. They can even spoof phone numbers to call you. A few ways to protect yourself include:
- Never sharing personal details (like passwords, PINs, or Social Security numbers) over text, email, or phone.
- Being cautious of messages with urgent language, like "act now" or "your account will be suspended."
If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t—trust your instincts. Always contact member support directly if you’re unsure.
Use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Whenever Possible
Adding an extra layer of security with MFA can be incredibly effective. This feature requires you to verify your identity through a second step, like a one-time code sent to your phone or email, which can make it harder for scammers to access your account even if they somehow get your password.
Monitor Your Accounts Regularly
Especially during the holiday season, it’s helpful to check your account activity frequently for any unusual transactions. If you spot anything suspicious, reach out to our member support team immediately.
We’re committed to helping you keep your accounts safe this season and year-round. We’re wishing you a joyful and secure holiday season!
